TEHRAN – The chief of the Iranian Air Defense Force, has announced that the air defense remains vigilant over the heavily trafficked skies of the Persian Gulf.

On Sunday, Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard emphasized that the airspace above the Persian Gulf is under constant surveillance, noting the essential role of domestic systems in enhancing the nation’s air defense capabilities.

He pointed out the importance of maintaining readiness in the southeast air defense zone, particularly due to the region's high volume of air traffic, stating, “With divine assistance, this zone is equipped with a vigilant and responsive unit.”

“Adversaries are aware of the preparedness of Iran's personnel and defense systems, recognizing that any misstep will provoke a firm reaction,” the commander added.

Brigadier General Sabahifard also underscored the self-reliance achieved in training personnel and in the development of detection, reconnaissance, eavesdropping, signaling, interception, and engagement systems, which he identified as a significant strength of the country's air defense.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force (IRIADF) plays a crucial role in the nation's military framework, tasked with safeguarding Iran's airspace and essential infrastructure from aerial threats.

Formed in 1992 as an independent branch distinct from the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF), the IRIADF utilizes various air defense systems and technologies, such as surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft artillery, and radar systems.

The main objective of the Iranian Air Defense Force is to detect, identify, and neutralize hostile aircraft, drones, and missiles operating within the airspace of Iran.
